MOCHDRE’s incredible start to the North Wales Cricket League Premier Division season continued with an emphatic 103-run win at Brymbo.

The newly promoted side have made their presence felt from the outset and turned in another polished display against one of last season’s title challengers, leaving them in third spot ahead of their home tie with Gresford on Saturday.

Despite losing Stewart Williams (7) to a Wayne Smith delivery early on, the visitors made a strong start to their time in the middle thanks in no small part to the performance of Gareth Goodson, with the all-rounder smashing his way to 63 off just 43 balls before he eventually played a Gareth Boys delivery into the hands of Dan Parry.

He was aided at the other end by skipper Matty Humphreys, who contributed 26 to the overall total, with Alex Davies also in sensational form on his way to a nine-boundary 53.

This was followed by an exceptional innings from James French, who demonstrated his incredible talent before falling three short of his century as the away side ended their allotted 50 overs on 274-5.

Goodson managed to oust dangerous opener Shashika Meistry for seven to get the visitors off to a strong start in the field, with Russ Boswell and Humphreys also getting in on the act with the scalps of James Claybrook (4), George Bourne (7) and Parry (11).

Things looked even more promising soon after when Williams dismissed Chris Craven for just eight, and Davies managed to claim the prized wicket of Mohamed Jayman at a crucial stage of the innings after the talented batsman made 78.

Davies also disposed of Daniel Monk (1), Andy Evans (0) and Wayne Smith (0) late on to guarantee success for his side on his way to figures of 4-32 as the home side were all out for 172 in reply.
