TWO more takeaways in Swindon have been awarded a zero star hygiene rating – the worst possible standard for food safety.

In April, we toured the town’s zero hygiene establishments to sample the food on offer – and it’s fair to say some were better than others.

Since then, two of the takeaways warned by inspectors over their standards have had new ratings – and have improved.

Sammy’s on Swindon Street now has a 3-star score after an inspection at the end of March.

And Istanbul at 52 Manchester Road has also been awarded a 3 since we visited.

However, there are a couple of new entries on the dreaded zero list.

Mobile kebab van Westlea Kebabs, which operates on West Mead Drive, had a visit from inspectors on March 28.

Council teams weren’t impressed by the food preparation and hygiene, giving it a rating of BAD.

Here’s what they scored it.

·      Food Hygiene and Safety - Bad

·      Structural Compliance popup - Poor

·      Confidence in Management - Little

The second new entry into the zero club is Diamond Kebab House on Cricklade Road.

It received a zero rating after an inspection on 20th March – but the breakdown of the council’s findings are not yet available.


Other zero star ratings in town

Jehovah Jireli House Of Preyer, Penhill Food And Wine, Melisa Trading Ltd have also been zero rated by Swindon Borough Council.

As they are not restaurants or takeaways, but stores or "other catering businesses" they were not covered in our review.
