NORTHOP 2NDS 84-1

CORWEN 82

IT proved to be a tough North Wales Cricket League weekend on their travels for Corwen.

A Division Two encounter on Saturday ended with Corwen experiencing a nine-wicket reverse during their trip to Northop 2nds.

It was Northop who won the toss and they made the correct decision to spend the early portion of the afternoon in the field.

Only one batsman managed to reach double figures as the 10-man visitors were dismissed for 82 in the 39th over.

Nathan Murray struck 18, while the pick of the home bowlers were Joe Griffiths (4-17) and Mark Poynton (3-16).

William Pooler (1-32) claimed an early wicket during Northop's reply to make sure that Corwen picked up a point.

However, that's as good as it got for the visitors, with Lloyd Hayes (44 not out) and Thomas Hughes (24 not out) leading Northop to a winning 84-1 in the 14th over.

LLANGOLLEN 53

CAERNARFON 180-8

DESPITE the best efforts of Kamran Hassan, Saturday's spot of action saw Llangollen suffer a heavy defeat.

In Division Four of the North Wales Cricket League, Llan welcomed Caernarfon to Tower Fields.

Ian Morgan was the star man as the Gwynedd side claimed a maximum 15-point haul.

Morgan cracked a superb 103 as Caernarfon made a competitive 180-8 from their 40 overs at the crease.

Jason Parry (33) was the only other batsman to catch the eye, as Kamran Hassan shone with the ball to claim 4-13 from nine overs.

The remaining wickets were shared by Gareth Rigden (2-24), Arthur Jenkins (1-9) and Gareth Jones (1-58).

Llangollen's response never really got going and they were bowled out for 53 in the 31st over.

Gareth Jones (14) and Arthur Jenkins (13) were the chief scorers.
