DENBIGH TOWN U-15s 2
KINMEL BAY 5
DESPITE two wonderful goals from Iwan Moores, Denbigh Town Rhinos U-15s fell at the final hurdle in a knockout event.
The Denbigh team lost 5-2 to Kinmel Bay in the final of the Rhyl and District Junior League Division 2 Cup.
In an ideal start, Denbigh took a ninth minute lead.
Guto Owen assisting Moores, who dinked over the onrushing keeper as Denbigh began to dominate.
However, three quickfire lapses of concentration turned the final on its head as Bay struck three times in five minutes to leave Denbigh with a mountain to climb.
A goalmouth scramble saw a Finn McCoole header clawed off the line at the end of the first half and after the restart, the Bay keeper denied him again.
He tipped McCoole's header out from the underneath the posts as the ball somehow managed to stay out.
Some brilliant quick-thinking from James Thomas played in Moores, who grabbed a second with a special lobbed strike from distance.
Hopes of a comeback where dashed by the linesman as Bay struck what looked like a clear offside goal to deflate the reds.
Despite some neat passages of play, Denbigh could never get into a rhythm as they succumbed to Kinmel Bay's direct approach.
Their opponents managed to strike a well-taken fifth with the tie stretched and they could have added more as Denbigh heads dropped.
The two teams will play once more with a league decider beckoning and maybe a chance for Denbigh to gain swift revenge.
