HOLYWELL pupils have put on their running shoes to raise hundreds of pounds for charity.

Pupils at Ysgol Maes Y Felin took part in an annual sponsored sports event in aid of charity and school funds and raised over £500.

The children were invited to wear their own clothes for a donation and nursery and reception children took part in a sponsored wiggle while pupils from year one to year six completed a one-mile run.

The school council organised the event and came up with the idea of splitting the money raised between the charity 'Action for Children' and school funds.

Prior to the event, they wrote letters to inform parents and created a sponsorship form for pupils to take home. They also made posters to remind children in school.

On the day, members of the school council measured the 'track' and created a rota for themselves to be available to support each class in completing their run.

Tamsin Nellist, year one and two teacher, said: "The day was a huge success. It was great to see all the children taking part and having fun.

"We are thrilled to have raised over five hundred pounds, and we still have sponsorship money coming in. As always, the response and support from parents and families has been fantastic.

"The share of the money for school funds will contribute to extra-curricular events throughout school including a Roman day, local artists coming in to work with the children and an African themed day.”

"We would like to thank the school council for all their hard work before and on the day. They did a brilliant job and we are very proud of them."
