A COMMUNITY came together to mark the end of Mental Health Awareness Week and raise funds for an important cause.

Kat Jane Massey, of Connah's Quay, organised a charity ball at the Beaufort Park-Hotel in a bid to raise funds for KIM Inspire Hubb.

The event, which raised over £1,800, came at the end of Mental Health Awareness Week and Ms Massey told the Leader that more awareness needs to be raised.

She said: "It was brilliant, we raised a lot more than what we expected. We had really good feedback as well and we raised loads of money and awareness which was our aim."

Ms Massey was a stylist for 26 years before taking early retirement after the loss of a friend and she said it was a charity ball with a difference.

An awards ceremony was held for North Wales hairdressers who help people's well-being when they come in for an appointment.

She added: "I'm hoping to make an annual event of some sort, but maybe without the awards.

"We held awards for Best North Wales Hair Salon for those that treated their clients for their well being as sometimes it's scary going to a salon. So we had people going to salons secretly to see what their experience was like.

"I would like to thank everyone, the community who came together and the sponsors for their kind donations. It was a fantastic night."

Ms Massey previously told the Leader that she has had difficulties with her own mental health and KIM helped her through it.
