CAERNARFON moved up to second in the North Wales Cricket League Division Four standings with an eye-catching 127-run win at Llangollen.

Talented batsman Ian Morgan turned in a sensational performance in the middle to ensure his side set a target of 180-8 from their 40 overs, with the player at his brilliant best to finish the innings unbeaten on 103.

He was aided at the other end by opener Jason Parry, who made a valuable contribution of 33, but no other visiting batsman made it into double-figures thanks to a sterling performance from the home bowling attack.

This was led by Kamran Hassan, who helped himself to four wickets for the loss of just 13 runs, with Gareth Rigden taking a pair of victims at the expense of 24.

The away side got off to a flyer in the field when Barry Roberts removed the opening pair of Rigden (4) and Hassan (0) in quick succession, before Llyr Erddyn Davies turned the screw with a fantastic nine-over spell that saw him finish with four wickets for the loss of 18 runs.

This proved to be the difference between the two sides, with James Logan taking two lower order scalps late on to leave the hosts all out for just 53 from their 30 overs in the middle.

The promotion chasing Cofis will look to extend their unbeaten start to the campaign this Saturday when they entertain Halkyn Seconds.
