SUCCESS has continued to go the way of talented swimmers from the Vale of Clwyd.

Earlier this month saw the successful return of Denbigh Dragons swimming club to the Llandudno swimming centre.

The event was the Denbighshire Development Team gala, hosted by the Denbighshire clubs Corwen Sharks, Rhyl Dolphins, Ruthin Rays and Denbigh Dragons.

Teams from all over North Wales were joined by clubs from Chester, Oswestry and Stoke to compete.

The DDT galas have become well known for featuring the exciting ‘Skins‘ competition.

Competitors qualify on the strength of their 200m individual medley results and they then compete in a series of 50m races where the stroke is randomly selected seconds before each race begins.

The swimmer finishing last in each race is eliminated, until a winner is declared from a nail-biting final race between the last two competitors.

Denbigh Dragons triumphed in both the senior boy and senior girl categories, with Dafydd Jones and Mali Jones each taking home a trophy and cash prize.

It was certainly a thrilling event and a fantastic result for Denbigh Dragons.

The Dragons also achieved top girl and boy prizes in a number of age categories.

Phoebe Derbyshire won the best girl accolade in the nine-year-old category, while Sian Evans was successful in the 10-year-old class, as was Maisie Evans in the 14-year-old section.

Josh Hall took the win for the boys in the 16 and over category.

The team came second overall with 2,404 points, narrowly missing out to winners Wrexham.
