A SCHOOL has celebrated a funding boost from their local supermarket.

Ysgol Ty Ffynnon, in Shotton, was part of the green token initiative at their local Asda store - based in Queensferry - where customers could use tokens to vote for their chosen cause

As a result, the school has been awarded £200 by Asda.

Nia Goldsmith told the Leader: "We were thrilled we had been selected to be part of the green token initiative which meant people had tokens in the shop and they had to vote. As a result we have been awarded £200 to spend on resources in the school.

"We are very grateful to Asda for choosing us in the first place, it's all very exciting and we have lots of ideas of how we can put the money to a good cause."

Every year, the store which allows nominees to be put forward for voting from customers which sees a first prize of £500.

Rachel O'Brien, Community Champion, visited the school to drop off the donation and speak to staff about how it would benefit them.

She added: "We are really chuffed to be able to give donations like this to local schools and other good causes. We do one every year and it's just great to see."
