SHOTTON residents should not have to look at mountains of dump rubbish, a councillor has said.

Cllr Mike Evans, of Shotton East Ward, said his town continues to be infected with fly tipping and bags of rubbish being left outside on a daily basis.

He told the Leader: "I've had a sledgehammer but now I'm bringing a bulldozer out now to knock the walls down but I don't mind. I have always been brought up that if you believe in something and it's right, don't let it go.

"I believe the good people of Shotton shouldn't have to be looking at this.

"There were ripped bags outside of Iceland the other day which had been ripped by the birds. Not only is it outside a food outlet, but it's right near a main bus stop.

"It gives people the wrong impression about Shotton. About 95 per cent of people are brilliant but it's that element battering the rest of us."

The councillor said he raised the issue at the monthly meeting and had asked for an update on the covert cameras.

He was told the cameras should be in the town within a matter of weeks.

Cllr Evans added: "Dave Evans told us at the meeting that he was advised by Flintshire the cameras should be a matter of weeks, but I'm not holding my breath. We have been fobbed off too many times. They are brick layers, they put that many walls up. We have been asking for these cameras for years.

"It's been going on too long, it's very frustrating and it must be frustrating for Wayne (Wayne Jones of Streetscene). I message him most mornings on my way to work. Without Wayne it would be in a worse state, they are exceptional, I can't praise them enough but he must be fed up with my texts."

The Leader has previously reported on Shotton's flytipping problem and the Independent councillor said nothing has changed, there is even a new hotspot now.

He said: "There's been no improvements whatsoever, some days it's worse. Particularly on a Monday and Friday which is after the weekend and after the bin collection. We get inundated for some unknown reason and education clearly isn't working.

"These people are flytipping where the signs are so do they understand what those signs mean? Obviously don't because recently we had two mountains, which isn't an exaggeration. There were over 30 bags on Butler Street and 30 bags behind Claire's House. There's now a new hotspot near the Melrose Inn."
