THE Premier League champions were left bemused when they received a stick of rock during their title winning celebrations.

Manchester City lifted the Premier League Trophy at Brighton’s Amex Stadium on Sunday, having beaten the Seagulls 4-1 to secure the title.

During their dressing room celebrations a member of staff handed out sticks of Brighton rock – specially made in blue and white – to the City players, some of whom seemed completely baffled by it.

While rock is synonymous with the British seaside, people from abroad may never have heard of it.

City players such as Germany’s Leroy Sane, Argentine duo Nicolas Otamendi and Sergio Aguero and Brazil’s Gabriel Jesus all looked perplexed when handed the rock.

They were told it was a sweet they could eat.

The football club captured the players’ bemusement on film and posted the video on social media.

It shows a member of Manchester City staff handing out the rock before turning to the camera with a laugh and saying “they look so confused”.

Any tourist shop on Brighton seafront worth its salt sells sticks of rock – but shop owners were not surprised Manchester City’s star

players had no idea what it was.

Colin Burt, owner of The Great Brighton Rock Shop in King’s Road, said: “We get a lot of tourists wonder what it is.

“We tell them it’s tradition to get Brighton Rock when you come to the seaside.

“You wouldn’t expect the players to know what

it is.

“Overseas people often ask us what rock is.”

The owner of The Famous King Of Rock, also in King’s Road, who declined to give his name, said: “Most of the people who come here might not know exactly what rock is but they have been told about it.

“So they come in and we tell them it’s a sweet and a seaside tradition.

“It was a nice touch for the Manchester City players to be given some rock.”
