VOLUNTEERS have come together to clean up their local community.

Forty volunteers took two hours out of their Friday afternoon to brave the wet weather in a bid to clean up around Airbus.

The idea first came from Paul McKinlay, Head of the Broughton plant, who wanted to make a difference to his local environment.

Airbus volunteers were joined by councillors Derek Butler, Mike Lowe and Billy Mullins who spent the afternoon collecting rubbig from grass verges, hedgerows, footpaths and fields.

Between them, they filled an entire skip of rubbish and amongst the waste was part of a caravan.

Head of the Broughton Plant, Paul Mckinlay, said: "Airbus is proud to be part of this community and cares about our local environment, so what better way to show it than to give the place a thorough spring clean. I’d like to thank our Airbus volunteers and the local councillors for taking the time to help in this worthwhile endeavour."
