BUCKLEY pupils have been encouraged to celebrate their love of literature.
As a follow on from World Book Day, pupils at Elfed High School were asked to submit competition entries for their own piece of writing and their own new or existing book character or book cover.
Poems and stories that were submitted included 'Waiting', 'Unique', 'The Pearl Dragon', 'The Clown Who Lives Again' and 'Loving the Wrong'.
The winning piece of writing was awarded to ‘Ever wanted to visit a parallel version of your world?’ which was jointly written by two Year 7 pupils - Heather Donachie and Joe Mouncher.
Taking first place for the best book character was year 8 pupil - Frankie Astley, for her drawing of 'Molly the Witch'.
Winning students were each presented with a £10 national book token.
Catherine Anstey, school librarian, helped to judge the competition and she said all entrants were extremely creative.
She added: "Great imagination was invested by all of the pupils.
"It was incredibly hard to judge as the work submitted was to a really high standard. The pupils are a credit to Elfed High School."
