MEMBERS of a local environmental group are calling on various authorities to take decisive action in response to climate change.

The North Wales Extinction Rebellion Group are urging local councils, the Assembly Government and the United Kingdom Government to act quickly.

The group has also been supporting Cllr Catrin Wager, in her motion for Gwynedd Council to declare a climate emergency, which has recently been passed.

Members of the group recently organised a family fun day in Caernarfon to connect with the community, dropping a banner from a balcony at the castle.

Several of the group also travelled to London to join the protests which took place there, where Arfon MP Hywel Williams joined constituents outside Parliament.

‘To know with utmost certainty that our current treatment of the environment will lead to catastrophic damage, but to do so little about it, shows how broken our political system is," he said.

"No one is immune from the effects of climate change, but it is future generations that will face its worst consequences. Without fast, meaningful and intensive climate action we will soon be facing a real and immediate existential crisis.

"I was pleased to meet with Heather and Geraint who travelled from Gwynedd to join other activists outside Parliament to lobby the UK government to do more to address the deteriorating ecological crises facing our planet.

"I hope this is the first step in putting climate change at the top of the political agenda, so action can be taken in the little time we have left to address this irrefutably important issue."

The group in North Wales is growing, the Facebook page currently numbering around 600 people over a hundred of which have joined in the past few days.
