TWO hotels situated in the Bala area have been nominated in the same category at the 2019 Food Awards Wales competition.

Both Plas Yn Dre on the Town's High Street and Palé Hall, based on the outskirts in Llandderfel, have been shortlisted in the Hotel Restaurant of the Year section.

The Two will come up against The California Hotel (Brynteg, Anglesey), Breeze Hill Hotel (Benllech, Anglesey), Cae Mor (Llandudno), Chateau Rhianfa (Menai Bridge, Anglesey), Tre Ysgawen (Llangefni, Anglesey), Seiont Manor (Llanrug), Portmeirion Hotel (Minffordd) and Lastra Farm Hotel (Amlwch, Anglesey) for the prize.

Plas Yn Dre has been a family run restaurant since 1990 and went through quite a transformation in 2017, with a complete re-vamp and the addition of nine guest bedrooms.

The building has been sympathetically built retaining as many of the original features of the historic building as possible and furnished and styled in a luxurious relaxed theme.

Palé Hall is Wales' only AA Five Red Star hotel. It is a destination luxury country house hotel and is seen as the perfect destination for a quiet retreat, comfort and culinary indulgence.

Situated in the tranquil Dee Valley, the grand, historic, high Victorian mansion has an idyllic woodland garden rolling down to the banks of the river and the spectacular Snowdonia National Park is right on its doorstep.

Speaking on having been nominated for the Food Awards Wales prize, Owain Roberts, whose family have run Plas Yn Dre for its whole 29 year existence said: "We are very honoured and humbled to be shortlisted for this prestigious award alongside some of the best eateries in Wales.

"It’s a testament to all the hard work from our Head Chef Justin Fenwick-Scott and his kitchen brigade.

"Justin has been with us over 12 months and has transformed the Plas Yn Dre’s eating experience by using the finest local ingredients and years of experience gained from various restaurants.

"This includes his time working at the world-renowned Le Manoir, where he worked for the great chef Raymond Blanc himself ."
