VISITORS to a town railway station have been treated to a step back in time to the spirit of the blitz.

Llangollen Railway turned back the clock to the Second World War era when it staged its Home Front Weekend across Saturday and Sunday.

The Home Front side of the period was represented with civilian vehicles parked at various locations together with displays of life in the 1940s.

Lookalikes of Winston Churchill, General Montgomery and Air Vice Marshall Harris mingled with the crowds throughout the weekend to undertake inspections and make patriotic speeches.

On both days there were mock air raids and demonstration of military firepower at Llangollen station.

Entertainment was provided at each station along the line by live performers singing songs of the era including the Bluebird Belles, George Formby, the Airborne Angel and Jayne Darling.

On Saturday evening Llangollen Station staged a 1940s-style evening dance with live acts and a real ale bar.

A drum head church service was held on Sunday morning at Llangollen station.
