A CAR park is set to reopen this week after major renovation work.

Rhyl Central Car Park, the former Underground Car Park, will open on Friday – the same day the town’s new £1 5million SC2 water park opens its doors to the public.

The area now benefits from improved signage, two new pedestrian entrances and an additional ramp to improve accessibility, new lighting, ventilation, and improved CCTV coverage.

New pay and display machines have been installed which accept chip and pin card and contactless payment in addition to cash.

Denbighshire County Council leader Cllr Hugh Evans said: “This work has transformed the car park, offering residents and visitors to Rhyl a better experience. The car park has been fitted with new energy efficient lighting and we have ensured the car park feels safer and looks more attractive.

“I’d like to thank everyone for their patience while this work was carried out. The current regeneration programme for Rhyl aims to increase the number of tourists and visitors to the resort and this car park helps accommodate those visitors while improving traffic management in the town.”

Nadeem Ahmad, chairman of the Rhyl Business Improvement District, and owner of Chrome Menswear and the Jean Emporium, said: “A lot of hard work has gone into its modernisation, providing a user friendly, safe and secure parking space, linking well with the High Street with clearly displayed and multiple, up-to-date payment options.”

The car park will be free throughout April but further minor renovation work will continue.
