A security officer and his wife each got eight-week suspended jail sentences and have been ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work.

The case at Llandudno court resulted from incidents on March 17 when Adam Thomas, 28, of Clwyd Gardens, Kinmel Bay, refused to give a breath sample to police for analysis and his 25-year-old wife Jade assaulted a police sergeant at the family home causing the officer to lose her balance.

Adam Thomas pleaded guilty to failing to provide a sample and his wife to common assault on an emergency worker.

A driving ban of three years was imposed on Adam Thomas, who must pay £200 costs.

Jade Thomas must pay similar costs but also £200 compensation to Sgt Wendy Szabo.

District Judge Gwyn Jones told her: “You were under the significant influence of alcohol when officers attended at your home to deal with your husband. You were sitting and raised your feet, resulting in her (the officer) losing her balance. It was use of the boot.”

A probation officer said Adam Thomas’ work entailed drug and alcohol testing and he would have to tell his employer about the case.

Nia Dawson, defending, said he had maintained he hadn’t been driving and thought he didn’t have to give a breath test.

His wife was a full time mother who didn’t normally drink. “She remembers being pinned down in a chair and in a panic kicked out,” she added.
