A VOLUNTARY group is looking for helpers to run their newly refurbished tea bar and shop.

Glan Clwyd Hospital's League of Friends is looking for more volunteers to help reach an ambitious target of raising half a million pounds over the next year.

The shop and tea bar recently moved to a new location at the front of the hospital.

Terry Durkin, chairman of the League of Friends, said: "We did have 420 volunteers but now we are down to about 250. We’ve been overwhelmed with the response to our new location, and now really need extra volunteers to help us with our fundraising work.

"We recently raised as much as £420,000 toward new equipment for our staff, and hope over the coming year to break through the half a million barrier this year.

"But we need new volunteers to help us reach that goal.”

The voluntary group has raised more than £1.3m over the last five of years.

The League of Friends donates all profits from its activities to purchasing new equipment for use in the hospital.

Staff are encouraged to submit bids for additional equipment to help improve patients’ care and comfort.

Anyone interested in joining can collect an application form at either of the League of Friends cafes or the hospital shop, or telephone 01745 448788 extension 7208.
