A FASHION show which put a spotlight on mental health raised more than £2000 for Vale of Clwyd Mind.

Emotions and fears were overcome as ‘Ray’s Angels’ took to the catwalk at Rhyl Town Hall last month to help reduce the stigma around mental health issues; individuals of all ages took to the stage and wore t-shirts with the message - ‘Hi my name is…. do you see me?’ The back of the tops featured a type of problem being faced by the model - including loneliness, anxiety, empathic, PTSD, panic attacks, bipolar and depression.

Rhyl photographer Ray Worsnop organised the show and was aided by Sabina Rose Palmer, Michelle Anderson, Suzy Q Buck and her husband Derek.

It is hoped that the money raised can go towards purchasing instruments for young people.

Ray said: “It is still in the planning stage, but Vale of Clwyd Mind are aiming to spend the money of young people and putting together a musical group. They money will help them buy instruments.”

Reflecting on the show, Ray added: “I have never ever felt that much emotion in one room. A lot of people in the room were holding hands.

"I am so proud of the people who took part. One lady drove from Stoke and one girl turned up on the door and asked if she could help.

“Ray's Angels have become a support network - so many people have new families and friends.”

Michelle Anderson, who took part in the show, said Ray had not only acted as her mentor but ‘her rock’.

Michelle, who battles with social anxiety, said: “The show helped keep my busy - it acted as my release. Since the show, we have carried on supporting each other - we go out for meals, and chat to make sure everyone is ok.

“There was a saying - you don’t have to fix me, you just have to hold my hand and I will fix myself. It is ok not to be ok.”

During the event, one of Ray’s Angels Beth Hopper performed a song she had written about her mental health issues. Musical Meatballs in Mind also put on a performance and sang three songs.

Ray confirmed that he and his team are planning a second event.
