A BUSINESS owner’s decision to retire has paved the way for a shoe shop to expand.

Nouveau Riche, on Prestatyn High Street, closed its doors late last month after owner Cathy Challand took retirement.

Hal Holmes-Pierce, who runs Elevate Your Sole, has now made plans to move into the historic building – which boasts curved glass Victorian frontage.

He will move from his current base at 108 High Street to the shop at 170. The shop will open on Wednesday, March 13 at 10am. There will be fizz and nibbles.

Hal, 31, said: “I owe a great deal of thanks to my customers in the Prestatyn shop who continue to give me the encouragement needed to continually move the business forward.

“The popularity of the business has meant that we have outgrown our original premises.

Rhyl Journal:

“I’ve been on the look out for opportunities to expand and Nouveau Riche is the perfect choice. It is a lovely property and will enable me to really show off our shoes.”

Cathy marked her send off with a drinks, light bites and a cake from Tudor House.

“Cathy set up in the town about a year before I came along, I think June 2012,” Hal added.

“She had been a great help to me, offering sound business advice and a friendly ear. It’s the end of an era really.

Rhyl Journal:

“She was a lovely member of the business community who’s going to be missed by so many of her customers and other business owners.”

Hal grew up in Dyserth, then Gwaenysgor, and has been living in Prestatyn for 10 years.

The former Ysgol Hiraddug and Prestatyn High School pupil added: “The move is an opportunity to increase my range of shoes and offer my customers more choice than ever before.

“The beautiful curved glass frontage has great curb appeal, whilst the generous size of the shop will allow me to increase my product offering.

Hal also operates a shop in Rhos on Sea.
