Coleg Llandrillo’s Travel & Tourism students organised a careers conference for nearly 100 students from across North Wales, which included seminars, showcase areas, interactive stands and workshops from a wide range of renowned travel and tourism organisations.

The Level 3 students, based at the college’s Rhos-on-Sea campus, spent months preparing, promoting, and marketing the dynamic event. They also organised a range of Q&A sessions with external guest speakers.

The conference not only attracted students from across Grŵp Llandrillo Menai’s campuses, but also Travel & Tourism students from Coleg Cambria. Attendees got the chance to glean information on careers options from industry insiders.

The organising students, who all wore matching industry-standard attire, managed to attract representatives from Voel Coaches, Careers Wales, Dylan’s Restaurant, Venue Cymru, Zip World, Tir Prince, North Wales Tourism and Adventure Park Snowdonia.

The purpose of the event was to inform students who are interested in entering the industry about the careers opportunities available, and the skills and qualifications required.

19-year-old Bethany Fletcher from Rhyl, said: “I took the role of team leader for the event because I am interested in this sort of role as a career. The event was very inspiring for me, as we had a hand in planning all aspects. It helped me to develop skills in team management and gave me the opportunity to speak to different employers and to build relationships, which will help me in the future.”

Level 3 student, Courtney Harris, 18, from Prestatyn, added: “The event was a fantastic opportunity for students to interact with local employers and for us to have a better insight of potential careers closer to home. It allowed me to gain more knowledge about the events industry across North Wales."

Tutor Caroline Lewis said: “The tourism employment event was a great success. The Level 3 second years worked extremely hard in creating and organising all aspects, which has not only allowed them to gain an insight into the events industry, but also gave them strong links with local tourism employers.

“We as a department try to give our students the opportunity to interact with a range of sectors within the tourism industry, and feel that it is extremely important to open their eyes to the career opportunities that are available to them on their doorstep.

“The event allowed students and employers from across North Wales to meet and interact, and we hope that following the success of this event we will be able to continue to build on these relationships, showcasing how employable the Coleg Llandrillo tourism students are.”
