IT WAS fierce competition and fierce hair designs and make up as students battled it out for medals.

Grŵp Llandrillo Menai’s Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy students competed in the college finals.

Students from Rhos-on-Sea won 18 medals and Rhyl students scooped nine medals, making Coleg Llandrillo’s Rhos-on-Sea campus the overall winner and the holder of the shield for a year.

Frances Davies, customer services programme manager (FE) at Coleg Menai, said: “This multi-college competition was an opportunity for all hairdressing and beauty therapy students to show off their individual skills and talents.

"The standard of the competitions was very high and reflects the excellent skills that our students are being taught."

Competitions ranged from gents cut and blow dry and block work, through hair-up categories, to bridal and avant garde.

Beauty Therapy students tackled tasks including nail enhancement, leg waxing, festival make-up and manicures.

The final involved more than 100 full and part-time students from across Coleg Llandrillo, Coleg Menai and Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor campuses.

Models’ costumes ranged from wedding dresses to ice queen-inspired creations, complimented by associated hairstyles and make-up.

Winners from the final will now be selected to enter both national and WorldSkills’ competitions.
