A CHEQUE for £547 was presented to a hospital’s cancer ward.

The master Clive Hodgetts, of Elwy Masonic Lodge based in Rhyl, presented a cheque for £547 to the cancer ward at Glan Clwyd Hospital in Bodelwyddan.

Barry Townsend, secretary of the Elwy Masonic Lodge, said: "The nurses on duty gladly received the cheque on behalf of the ward. The amount was raised at our January meeting in a special raffle.

"The reason we chose the cancer ward to be the recipient is because we all have close relatives who have received the exceptional help and care they provide so we were very pleased to assist in this small way.

"The masons in general give millions each year to charity at national and local levels and all out of our own pockets, something we are very proud of.

"The amount raised was exceptional and reflected the respect the members have for the hospital and will probably be repeated in the future."

The money will be spent on providing extra items of care for patients during their stay at the hospital.
