WORK has been completed on a 73-bedroom hotel in Rhyl.

After a year of construction, Rhyl Seafront Travelodge - which features 69 family rooms and four accessible bedrooms - is due to open next month.

The hotel, developed by Ion Development for Denbighshire County Council, was built by Wynne Construction.

The Travelodge will form part of Denbighshire County Council’s £25m Rhyl Waterfront regeneration scheme, which has already seen the completion of a Marston’s pub and restaurant catering for 150 customers.

Cllr Win Mullen-James, mayor of Rhyl, said: "The building looks pretty swish, very smart.

"As mayor of Rhyl, I feel very privileged to be part of this wonderful year. There is a lot happening in the town. We are coming on so well now, we've got the Travelodge, we've had 1891, the underground car park is getting ready for the opening of SC2 in April.

"In terms of getting tourists here, the opening of the hotel is certainly a step in the right direction. When we think about the events we have got, like the airshow, we'd like to think that people will stay for the weekend. It will be a real positive."

Steve Parry, managing director, Ion Development, said: "It’s brilliant to see completion of this excellent addition to Rhyl’s seaside offering.

"We look forward to seeing the Rhyl Seafront Travelodge provide a boost for Rhyl’s tourism economy as a key component of the Council’s ambitious vision to transform and regenerate the waterfront."

Cllr Hugh Evans, leader of Denbighshire County Council, said: ‘The completion of work at Rhyl Seafront Travelodge is another milestone in the regeneration of Rhyl.

"Along with SC2 and work on the Rhyl Masterplan, there is more investment ongoing in Rhyl, something which will create jobs and support the economy of Denbighshire as a whole."

The hotel includes a ground floor reception, bar and breakfast restaurant area. There are 50 parking spaces available for guest’s use.

A total of 400 local personnel worked on the project under Wynne Construction’s policy of employing local supply chain partners.
