THREE people had a lucky escape after a fire was caught early at their home

The incident happened at a property in Milford Street, Mold, where the smoke detector raised the alarm.

Two women and a 12 year old girl were alerted to the fire after a portable electric heater had toppled over.

A 37-year-old woman was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene after the incident triggered an asthma attack.

Two crews from Buckley and Mold were called to the property on Milford Street shortly before 7.15pm on Monday evening.

The incident resulted in smoke damage to the kitchen and the heater was destroyed by the fire.

Justin Evans from North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: “Without the early warning from the smoke alarm, this incident could have been much more serious.

“At this time of year when people are using electrical heaters to keep warm, it’s important to take great care to ensure they are placed on a level surface well away from anything which could catch fire - and to unplug any electrical appliances not in use.

“If a fire should break out, you need to be able to get out of your property, so please ensure your escape route is kept clear of any obstructions so you can exit as quickly as possible - don’t leave items around which could prevent you from being able to get out."
