A FATHER whose brother took his own life has set up a support network to help those who feel alone.

Jay Crowe, of Kinmel Page, set up a page on Facebook called Suicide Prevention just before Christmas.

Just three weeks on, the page has so far attracted more than 900 members.

Jay – father of Rhys, 14, Leo, nine, and Annie-Leigh, three – initially made the group so he could offer support to people who have difficulty reaching out to their families, friends and or GP.

His brother Lee crowe has acted as inspiration to the page after he took his own life.

Jay, 30, said: “I know how it can impact a family on a day-to-day basis.

“The pain is unbearable on some days.

“I, myself, was one who didn’t speak or reach out to anyone as I didn’t know who to turn to at the time.

“I thought rather than people being in the same situation as me, I would put myself out there.”

He added: “The page continues to grow everyday and the rapid response it has had has been unbelievable.

“My message is slowly getting across and it seems the more I interact with the page, the more numbers it acquires.

“The response has made me think of how I can get more across to individuals in need. I have been in touch with Papyrus UK regarding training, but none is available till June.

“The feedback and response has been massively overwhelming, from people saying I am amazing for what I am doing to some even saying am a hero.

“To me, that is not the case – I am just doing what I think needs to be done.”

Jay, who works as a labourer, has worked as a support worker with mental health and has gained a NVQ level three in health and social.

He is keen to put out the message to those in need that ‘you are not alone.’

“It hit me instantly that people don’t have to be alone,” he said.

“I have been where they are so just that bit of time I can offer to someone by speaking to them gives them a little bit of hope.

“Sometimes that is all we need.”

Jay is hoping that in time his support network will attract national attraction.

He added: “My plan may be a long way off but nevertheless, they are my goals.

“I am still at the stage of raising local awareness.

“Just getting the message out there is my main priority.”

Jay has signed up for a fundraiser to raise money for Papyrus UK.

“One I have a date for the challenge, I will be doing some fundraising nights,” Jay said.

“I am terrified of heights but it’s for a good cause and makes it more of an experience for me as I would be conquering my fears.”

Anyone is need of support or who is struggling in life with stress, anxiety, mental health issues or depression, can search ‘Suicide Prevention’ on Facebook.
