FIVE months of replacement works on about a mile of old water pipes near Llangollen will start next month.

The substantial works to replace the failing water main which lies beneath a rural lane in Llantysilio will be carried out by Wrexham-based water board Hafren Dyfrdwy from February 12.

The narrow lane, Maes Yr Ychain, which adjoins the A542 Horseshoe Pass near the Britannia Inn, will be closed during the works and limited access will be provided to residents where possible until the expected completion in June.

A diversion will be in place via the A542 and St Tysilios Church to Abersilio.

A spokesperson from Hafren Dyfrdwy said: “Our work in Llantysilio means our customers will have a water supply they can trust into the future and be protected from potential future leaks and bursts caused by ageing water pipes.

“We’ll be replacing nearly a mile of pipes and, to keep our engineers and road users safe, we’ll be closing sections of the road as we work. There will be a fully signposted diversion agreed with Denbighshire County Council in place.

“We apologise in advance if this causes any inconvenience. Every effort has been made to plan this work to cause as little disruption as possible but this project is vital for Llantysilio as it means those living in the area will have a resilient water supply for years to come.”
