WOULD you be interested in learning about how to use your non-recyclable waste in a useful way?

A free workshop in Llangollen will teach attendees about how to make 'ecobricks', an activity that prevents throwing away plastic that cannot be recycled or biodegrade - instead encouraging homeowners to make items such as garden furniture and benches.

The 'bricks' are created by packing empty plastic bottles with rubbish which become hard enough to be used as a building block.

The workshop, run by plastic free campaigner Mair Davies, from Llangollen, will also discuss how you can use your ecobrick and how to donate it to a building project.

Mrs Davies, who chairs Plastic Free Llangollen, said: "The session isn't for everyone but there are people that do want to learn, or people who already know how to do it but want some company.

"Many people who want to try to make ecobricks aren't sure how to do it properly. For example, the rubbish needs to be cleaned and dried before it is packed into the bottle.

"The bricks are an innovative salutation to waste management - they are stuffed to hold weight, so they should weigh about one-third of their content. A one litre bottle holds more than 333g of plastic waste.

"Hopefully it will be nice for the community instead of staying at home on your own whilst stuffing plastic in a bottle!"

The workshop will take place on Wednesday, January 16 at Pengwern Community Centre between 7pm and 9pm.

Attendees should bring a clean, dry plastic bottle, non-biodegradable plastic waste that has been cleaned and dried, and a pair of scissors.
