May started as anything but a merry month for shocked Prestatyn residents who faced the threat of losing chunks of their gardens.

Denbighshire County Council has commissioned surveyors to write to people living in former council houses on Central Avenue saying some of the properties’ boundaries have been moved and they could lose part of their land.

Council tax payers will foot a bill for £200,000 unless a deal can be reached over the funding of three car parks. Abergele Town Council wants to lease the parking areas on Water Street and Market Street, Abergele and on Pensarn Beach from Conwy Borough Council to prevent them becoming pay and display, which cllr Andrew Wood says would amount to town regeneration suicide.

The founder of a pet rescue, who is a church minister, would rather risk being arrested or accused of theft, than give up three dogs given into her care.

Pugs Minnie and Puglsey and Staffordshire bull terrier Toxie were brought to Rev Marjorie Summerfield at the Pet Rescue Welfare Association in Dyserth. She said dogs were in a dreadful condition. The bull terrier was deemed underweight; the pug needed treatment for an eye condition while the fawn pug was crawling with live fleas.

The quick action of a husband and wife, together with a mystery mum and daughter helped save the lives of two teenage boys who had gone into the sea to recover a football. The boys were taken to Glan Clwyd hospital following the drama, which unfolded off West Parade, Rhyl.
