A 10-YEAR-old who has been rubbed shoulders with plenty of celebrities met his 'old friend' Johnny Vegas when filming his latest role.

Cai Roberts, of Bodelwyddan, plays Dexter, Lorraine Ashbourne's son in The Queen and I. The Sky1's adaptation, which features David Walliams as a power-mad Prime Minister, will air on Christmas Eve at 6pm.

Comedian Johnny Vegas also stars as well as Samantha Bond, Julia McKenzie, Frances Barber, Amanda Abbington and Oliver Chris.

Earlier this year, the Ysgol y Llys pupil was ‘cordially Invited’ to become a soft drinks sommelier at the launch of Robinsons Fruit Creations, a juice targeted at grown-ups. There, the youngster met The Saturdays singer Molly King and TV presenter and actress Denise Van Outen.

The pint size star has also modelled for Dr martens and appeared on stage and danced with Vegas at a Madness gig; the pair have been friends for seven years.

Cai's nan, Sheena Roberts, said: "He was chosen by the production company through his agency.

"The role means a lot to him. He was excited to be in a film with all the stars and was pleased to be asked.

"We are all very excited for him. We are very proud of him.

"He didn't have any lines but it was quite a featured part so we believe."

Filming took place at the end of September and during the first couple of weeks of October.

"One of the highlights for Cai was, well we didn't tell him Johnny Vegas was in the production and Johnny surprised him on set," Sheena added.

The Queen and I is about royals who end up living on a run-down cul-de-sac when power-mad prime minister Walliams boots out the monarchy.

The question asked is 'can one adapt?'

Sheena said: "Unfortunately Cai didn't get to meet David Walliams but he loved meeting the rest of the cast including his friend Johnny Vegas and he got on well with his on screen mum Lorraine Ashbourne.

"In-between shoots he entertained himself by pretending to interview the rest of the cast

"The production company were great. Cai had great fun on set and location."
