As we near the end of of what can only be described as a turbulent year throughout the world, it's a good opportunity to reflect upon what really matters to us.
Christmas has the effect of directing our thoughts on those who are less fortunate. The problem with this is that it's often temporary and doesn't address long term issues.
Whilst I don't have any immediate solutions I do think that accepting our differences whether religious, philosophical or physical would be a good starting point.
We are obsessed with material goals and I think humanity has missed the point of what really matters and what life is really about. There's nothing wrong with striving for the good things in life but our friendships and family are far more important.
I am involved in many community groups and we are fortunate in Prestatyn to have so many groups that keep and eye out for one another and are quick to defend or help those that aren't so lucky health-wise.
So my simple message is not just for Christmas but for our lifetimes. Appreciate the simple things in life, and look after one another.
Thank you for your support during the year.
Wishing everybody a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
Cllr Anton Sampson
Mayor of Prestatyn and Meliden
