THESE sickening photographs show why this Rhyl pub branded "so disgusting it posed a health risk" was shut down.

District Judge Gwyn Jones, sitting in Llandudno magistrates, granted an emergency prohibition notice in respect of the Wellington Inn after being shown pictures of the filthy kitchen. The matter was brought before the court this week.

Images, released by Denbighshire County Council, show the filthy hand-washbasin and dirty and cluttered work surfaces which are covered in crumbs.

There was no running hot water in the kitchen, broken glass had been left lying around and there was a stench of urine.

Rotting food has been found in the fridge and on work surfaces, with mould indicating it had been there for some time.

Unsafe wiring was discovered by Lorna Sargeant, a public protection officer with Denbighshire County Council, who told the court that officers and the police visited the pub in Wellington Road on December 13 after concerns had been raised.

An ice-maker and bottle-washing machine were also found to be dirty.

Referring to the lack of hot water, Mr Jones said: β€œIt is fair to assume that this had been the situation for some time, indeed for several months.”
