CHRISTMAS spirit shined through the heavy rain and gale force winds during Prestatyn’s festive event.

While there were some minor adjustments to the town’s first Traditional Christmas, Storm Deirdre failed to deter residents from enjoying a meet and greet with Santa and his two trusty reindeer.

Due to high winds, some activities had to move into the old council buildings opposite the Vicarage Gardens.

Also brushing off the inclement weather were Phil and Sue Pierce who starred as Mary and Joseph in the Living Nativity. Cllr Anton Sampson, Prestatyn and Meliden mayor, took on the role of king.

Determined not to be beaten, the land train braved the torrential conditions for a long as possible while Jess Griffiths and Kat Hewitt from Rhyl Operatic spread Christmas cheer with their singing. A choir from Denbigh also attend.

Rachael Astle, of Prestatyn Town Council said: “The weather didn’t beat us. People were understandable. Hundreds of people came out despite the freezing weather and although we had to make some changes, the only thing we had to cancel was the snow machine.

“We had 260 children go through the grotto to meet Santa.

“We are so grateful to the volunteers and everyone who turned out.”
