A Conwy businesswoman has raised more than £2000 in memory of her late husband.

Lorraine Gorst, a Conwy resident and owner of Daisy Chain Floral Design, lost her husband of 25 years, Eddie, in May this year to cancer.

In January he was given the all clear in January but in May was told it had returned and was an aggressive form.

He was admitted to the Inpatient Unit at St David’s Hospice, Llandudno where he sadly passed away three weeks later.

Mrs Gorst held the first ever Conwy Christmas Tree Festival this year, from December 1 to 8, at the St Mary's Church in the hope of raising money for the St David's Hospice as a way of saying thank you for their help with her husband.

She said: "I have always been a supporter of St David’s Hospice. It is such a wonderful place. When we found out that Eddie would need care, St David’s was the first and only place that came to mind.

"The care is so personalised, and all the staff were wonderful. Unlike a hospital setting, we were able to make Eddie’s room his own.

"He was able to have his family, friends and daughter’s pet dog Megan visit whenever they wished and he was surrounded by his own belongings including the photo frames of those he loved.

"We even had a little party in his room for the royal wedding (Megan and Harry).

"The staff were so supportive, always there for us all - complete angels. This is how people should end care for at the end of their life.”

The festival saw the church lined with Christmas trees of all shapes and sizes created and decorated by businesses from the area and community groups.

The trees were covered in everything from traditional baubles and angels, to poppies, toy trucks and snowflakes made from wooden spoons.

Thanks to the generosity of everyone involved, the event raised £2350.82 in memory of Eddie.

Mrs Gorst said: "I would like to thank everyone involved. The community of Conwy have been so supportive. It’s a first and everyone really enjoyed it. We also had coffee mornings and a raffle on the Saturdays. People have been more than generous, some giving donations even if they didn’t take part.”
