Managers of a Rhyl bar allowed drug-taking to take place, drunken customers were served and incidents were not reported to the police.

Those are some of the allegations being levelled against The Barrell in a report to be considered by councillors next week.

North Wales Police are asking Denbighshire’s licensing committee to review the licence of The Barrell in Water Street on grounds of public safety and failure to prevent crime and disorder.

Details of various incidents will be given to members, but Chief Inspector Andrew Williams says they have “a lack of confidence in the management of the premises to responsibly manage the premises”.

It is claimed that drunken customers are not challenged, that incidents of crime and disorder are not properly controlled and there is “evidence of an environment within the premises whereby drug-taking is openly tolerated”.

Most of the incidents occur after midnight so, it is claimed, the current opening hours are unsuitable.
