WORK will start next year on replacing a footbridge in Prestatyn.

The new footbridge, to be installed at Warren Drive, is part of Network Rail's railway upgrade plan.

The current structure has come to the end of its serviceable life.

A Network Rail spokesperson said: "Network Rail teams will be on site from December, and we expect the new footbridge to be installed by March.

"We would like to thank the community for their patience while we complete this essential work."

The bridge will be lifted out, piles, to hold the new structure, will be put in place and a new bridge deck will be lifted back in.

The main work will be conducted between January and March 2019.

A drop in - covering work, noise levels and compound location - was held at the Beeches hotel earlier this month. Network Rail said this was "well attended".

There has been implications for crossings in Prestatyn; in 2014 plans to build a footbridge near Glan y Gors, which would have spanned 100 metres in length, were "re-evaluated."
