RGC scrum-half Efan Jones was the star of the show to lead his side to a convincing 38-12 home triumph over Bedwas.

The former Wales U18 international was in dazzling form during the early Principality Premiership kick-off to get the Gogs back to winning ways, and Mark Jones’ men go in search of consecutive victories when they entertain Llanelli on Saturday (1pm).

Despite the eventual result it was the visitors who drew first blood when Jordan Reed intercepted a misplaced pass to score under the posts early on, which was converted.

Things provoked a strong response from the hosts, who got back on level terms soon after thanks to a sensational individual score from Jones, with Billy McBryde despatching the extras to level proceedings.

This was swiftly followed by another score courtesy of Tom Hughes after a series of impressive phases, and Jones continued his superb attacking nous with his second try of the morning shortly after the break to extend their advantage further. McBryde notched one of the conversion attempts and also hit a penalty during a dominant start to the second period.

The away side had no answer to the formidable Jones, who capped off an exceptional first half with another fine solo run to dive over midway through the half, with McBryde once again successful with the extras to seal the crucial bonus point.

A host of chances for the home side halted their momentum in the closing stages as Jones got some much-needed minutes into his entire squad, and the away side took full advantage of this to cross the white wash for just their second score that was converted.

There was still time for the Gogs to rub further salt into the visitors’ wounds, and a surging drive from the forward line presented an opportunity to another former Academy graduate and Welsh youth international in Dan Owen, who made no mistake with the finish under the posts to round off the scoring.
