VETERAN midfielder Ashley Wood was the standout performer as Kinmel Bay maintained their Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two title charge.

The Bay skipper was the star of the show as his side notched an eye-catching 4-1 win at Mochdre Sports to continue their excellent start to life in the fourth tier, and they are currently in second position and four points behind runaway leaders Blaenau Ffestiniog Amateurs having played three games more.

The visitors went ahead after 27 minutes when in-form forward Kie Ellis maintained his outstanding recent run of form with another well-taken effort, and they doubled their advantage after the break when Jordan Worthington doubled their advantage with 54 on the clock.

Talented playmaker Wood notched his first of the contest immediately following the restart after diverting home after a fine team move, and although Niall Owen managed to secure a consolation for the home side on 84 minutes it was not enough to ensure a nervy end to proceedings.

Bay completed the rout in stoppage time through Wood, who has emerged as the Bay talisman since their return to the Welsh football pyramid, and he capped off another virtuoso display with his second of the afternoon to seal their fifth win on the road and eighth in their 14 league games this term.

Andy Thomas’ men will be aiming to add to their positive momentum this Saturday when they entertain Pentraeth (2pm).
