Plans for 12 shipping containers to be used to store cuddly toys in Rhyl have been given the green light.

The application from Mr Sparks on behalf of a gaming firm went before councillors on Denbighshire’s planning committee on Wednesday.

It sought permission to site the shipping containers outside Derwen House on Derwen Road in Rhyl.

A report to members on the committee said they would be used to store cuddly toys and other prizes that the gaming company would use in the course of its business.

But Rhyl South county councillor, Ellie Chard,  called on councillors to vote down the plans.

She said: “On behalf of the residents living near the site I’d like to object to this as it is over intensification of the car park. With positioning these containers on the left hand side of the land plus changing the character of this area of Rhyl. It will mean 12 containers with metal doors and loading and unloading.”

She added: “I would ask members would you want 12 large containers across the road from your home?”

Conditions were agreed that the containers would have to be painted green to blend in with nearby trees and that loading and unloading could only take during business hours.

Councillors voted by 15 votes to one on favour of granting planning permission.
