THE season to be jolly is fast approaching and Denbigh will see a series of Christmas events take place across the community as it gets into the festive spirit.

The beginning of the festive period will be marked on Vale Street, which has been decked out with lights in preparation for the annual Denbigh Christmas Light Switch On on Friday, November 30.

Denbigh Events Group (DEG), Denbigh's major events organiser, has planned the event to take place from 10am to 8pm and will close the top of Denbigh high street between 5pm and 7pm whilst the 'switch on' takes place at 6pm.

Father Christmas will travel from the North Pole to turn on the lights alongside Catherine Jones, mayor of Denbigh and the Denbigh Musical Theatre Group.

There will also be food vendors, Christmas-themed stalls, live music, funfair rides and a circus and fire-eating display.

Schoolchildren will also be singing Christmas carols outside Denbigh Town Hall from 9.30am

Cllr Jones, who chairs the DEG, said: “This year we hope that we have catered for everyone.

“The light switch will be a great family event ending in a circus fire display.

“It is an event not to be missed.”

The DEG is also asking people to take part in its shop window display, as well as its Denbigh Christmas card competition - the winner of which will be produced next year.
