AFTER an intervention from Storm Callum a Rhyl BMX racing club’s tournament has finally got off to a flying start.

Cyclists from as far afield as Blackpool and Preston visited Marsh Tracks, Glan Y Morfa industrial estate for the Dragon Riders’ Winter Series .

The originally scheduled first round on October 13 was cancelled as strong winds and heavy rain gripped the North Wales coast during the amber warning storm.

The four leg tournament will see trophies awarded to winners after the final round in March, and saw a range of novice and expert riders from compete across seven races. Member of the Rhyl club Alfie Jones took the win in the Novice Under 6, Ryan Jones the Novice 14s and Ryan Evans the Masters 17+.

Club committee member Andrew Mackie said; “ Overall it was a brilliant day of racing at the new and improved Rhyl track that everyone thoroughly enjoyed.

“The club received lots of great feedback and we hope to welcome you all back to the track soon. The Dragon Riders committee would like to thank all competitors who travelled and supported the first round of the Winter Series.”
