A SPECIAL concert will mark three decades of great choral music in St Asaph this month.

To celebrate the Denbigh and District Male Voice Choir's 30th anniversary this month, St Asaph Cathedral will welcome the singers and special guests Caryl Parry Jones and both the junior and senior sections of Cor Cytgan Clwyd.

Denbigh and District Male Voice Choir was formed in 1988, and with a current membership of around 30 still has about a third of its founding members.

Their repertoire is wide ranging, from traditional hymns to lullabies and popular songs from musicals, with approximately half sung in Welsh and half in English.

Key elements to choir’s appeal are the accompaniments provided by effervescent pianist Nia Jones and by the humour of compere Clwyd Wynne. This summer, the choir were even selected to sing for celebrity couple Bryn Williams and Sharleen Spiteri's wedding.

Joining the choir is Parry Jones, who amongst numerous prestigious awards has earned a National Eisteddfod white robe, a spot in the Royal Television Society hall of fame and a Lifetime Achievement Award for services to music by the Radio Cymru Rock and Pop Awards.

Infusing a bit of variety in proceedings, there will be performances by both the junior and senior sections of Cor Cytgan Clwyd, which has achieved extraordinary success under the direction of Ann Davies.

Join in a celebration of Welsh choral music on Saturday, November 24 will get underway at 7.30pm.

Tickets are £10, to book call Denbigh and District Male Voice Choir on 01745 814753.
