A VOLUNTEER service is raising awareness of the importance of trustees to Denbighshire charities.

The Denbighshire Voluntary Services Council (DVSC), the membership body for volunteers, voluntary and community groups, third sector organisations and social enterprises across the county is taking part in the UK-wide celebrations for Trustees Week, which promotes the role of trustees, who are involved in the organisation and management charities.

The DVSC, which will hold a number of events during November 12-16, will promote the idea that creating a safe organisational culture is crucial to the smooth running of any third sector organisation, but that in a fast-changing environment which places increasing pressures on organisations trustees need accessible guidance to support.

Helen Wilkinson, DVSC’s chief executive, said: “Trustees' Week is an annual event to showcase the great work that trustees do and highlight opportunities for people from all walks of life to get involved and make a difference.

“It is also a great opportunity to say thank you to trustees. We encourage all of our members to give a shout out to their trustees who give their time voluntarily and make an enormous contribution to the third sector in Denbighshire."

The event series will include discussions on the role of trustees, how charities can gain funding, and how to become a young trustee. The DVSC will also host a Celebratory Trustee Shout Out to recognise those that have made a significant impact on their charity.

Ms Wilkinson said: “Trustees Week is also a great opportunity to say thank you to trustees. We encourage all of our members to give a shout out to their trustees who give their time voluntarily and make an enormous contribution to the third sector in Denbighshire.

“We would like to do a shout out to thank Beth Taylor, Liz Ward Hughes, Les Starling and Pam Boyd, DVSC trustees for their contribution this year.”

If you know someone who deserves to be recognised contact the DVSC by emailing office@dvsc.co.uk providing the name, contact details, and reason why (in no more than 250 words) the trustee’s effort deserves to be celebrated.
