A POPPY motif has been added to buses in Rhyl to commemorate the centenary of the end of the First World War.

Arriva is supporting the Royal British Legion as part of the #ThankYou100 campaign which aims to give thanks to everyone who contributed, sacrificed and innovated during the First World War.

The poppy motif has also been added to buses in Manchester and Liverpool.

As part of its campaign, Arriva has encouraged staff to look back at their family history to share stories of those involved in the war, to be included in a series of social media posts for Armistice Day.

Alastair Nuttall, an Arriva general manager, shared stories of his great uncle and grandfather Tom Walker Mann, who both served in the First World War.

Speaking about his great uncle, Private 20292 Arthur Wellesley Mann, of the 3rd Battalion, Grenadier Guards, Alastair said: “Like so many, he has no known resting place but is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial in France and in the churchyard of Stand Church in Whitefield."
