PUPILS were taught life-saving skills as part of Restart a Heart Day.

This is the third year that Ysgol Emrys ap Iwan have taken part in the national initiative with the Welsh Ambulance Service.

Pupils from year seven and eight were taught vital skills such as how to recognise a cardiac arrest, how to check for signs of life and performed mouth-to-mouth and chest compressions on inflatable mannequins.

Josh Allan and Jack Yelland, year eight, were involved in the activity last year.

Josh said: "I was watching a television programme about the work of ambulance crews and I saw people suffering cardiac arrest.

"The opportunity was a great chance for me which one day will be very useful and save someone's life."

Jack said: "I was able to visit the skills I learnt last year."

Each pupil received a certificate to acknowledge their participation.

Restart a Heart Day was held at secondary schools across the UK.

The annual day of action aims to teach CPR skills to as many people as possible.
