A STUDENT has won a top award.

Sean Williams, from Abergele, who has been learning bricklaying at Coleg Llandrillo, was named Redrow’s apprentice of the year 2018 for the homebuilder's North West and North Wales division

The 17-year-old former Emrys ap Iwan pupil received the accolade at Redrow's first awards event in Hinckley, Leicestershire.

Sean said: "My uncle is a bricklayer, so I got an early taste of construction. It’s in the family.

"I am really pleased to have been recognised in this way by Redrow, and had a great night at the awards’ dinner.”

Sean is currently studying for his NVQ level two in bricklaying at the college's Rhos-on-Sea campus.

He has made a big impression whilst working at Redrow’s Goetre Uchaf development in Bangor, helping to create feature walls for the housebuilder’s arts and crafts heritage collection.

Paul Cromby, area construction manager for Redrow said: "Sean is an ambassador for the industry, the award is incredibly well deserved, as we’ve all been so impressed by Sean’s approach to his work.”

Sean’s tutor, Jeff Price, said: “Sean always produces work of an excellent standard and no-one at college is surprised about his award.

"He is determined, talented and hard-working and deserves all his accolades.”
