CHILDREN in Rhyl will be handed the mic to define for themselves the impact of World War One 100 years on.

On Friday, November 9 school pupils will join members of youth theatre groups, dance troupes and singers at the Pavilion Theatre for the Rhyl Royal British Legion’s Together We Stand – 100 Years On For Those Who Have Fallen.

The two hour programme - packed with songs and dance influenced by World War One an other conflicts - will feature pupils from Tir Morfa, Ysgol Mair, Ysgol Llewelyn and Christcurch as well as performers from the North Wales School of Dance, Art Theatre, Oddball, Starmakers and the Phoenix Performers.

Rhyl Poppy Appeal organiser Richard Kendrick said: “We are still waiting on some schools and community groups to confirm, but as it stands we have 12 great acts from Rhyl and even further.

“Each group will remember our gallant forces through their performances based around music focused on World War One, but we also have Ysgol Llewlyn performing a piece from Schindler’s List and some songs from Evita, so the evening will be paying respects to sacrifice in many conflicts.”

Each act will have a 10 minute slot, with the bill completed with performances from further afield including Prestatyn Dance School, Castle Rhuddlan and Ruthin soprano and winner of Flint Young Musician of the Year Rhian Carys Jones.

Mr Kendrick added: “Of all the concerts in North Wales not a single one is working with children – it's all aimed at and performed by adults.

“This way, the young people can have their time to shine and say what the war means to them.

“If they can have fun performing music from and about that time, feel the emotions attached to each song, they're more likely to learn about the importance of World War One and appreciate the sacrifice of our troops.

“I’d like to thank everyone who's helped with the show, including all schools and groups and there leaders, and invite you to please join them to support our children as they support our veterans.”

The show take place at the Pavilion at 7pm.

Tickets are £11, with family tickets available and all proceeds going towards the Rhyl RBL Poppy Appeal. To book visit rhylpavilion.co.uk or call the box office on 01745 33000.
