VEHICLES are mounting the pavement and putting parents and children in danger on the school run because of congestion caused by parked cars connected with a local garage business, residents say.

People living at Cader Avenue in Kinmel Bay say someone needs to take responsibility for the situation. The residents attribute the build-up of vehicles to car repair business The Tilery Garage on St Asaph Avenue and say it is endangering parents and children going to and from nearby infants school Ysgol Y Foryd.

One resident, who has lived on the street for two years, said: “It’s ridiculous during school time. Cars mount the kerb and fire down the pavement without stopping while parents are walking their children to school.

“My neighbour’s granddaughter recently walked out of her gate and unbeknownst to her, a car was coming down on the pavement on its way to school. She was lucky not to be hit.

“Another woman on the street had to concrete her front garden and turn it into a driveway to stop cars clipping and smashing her wing mirror. I’ve spoken to highways at the county council and was fobbed off. I’ve spoken to the town council and they can’t seem to do anything.”

Other claims made by the resident include a nearby bus stop being blocked by cars, causing difficulty for elderly residents, and cars being trapped in driveways.

A spokesman for Tilery’s garage said: “I was aware that one person was trying to generate some momentum on the situation on Cader Avenue, but not that so many residents had complaints. I also wasn’t aware that there were issues with traffic during the school run.

“Obviously, if our trucks are frustrating residents or causing a nuisance, which is the last thing we want to do, we’ll have to move the vehicles

“However, while some of the recovery trucks are ours, it’s not just us. There are contractors working for other businesses and renovating a nearby factory, not to mention a plant machine that broke down on the street on the weekend which just called mayhem.”

Nobody at Conwy County Borough Council or Towyn and Kinmel Bay Town Council was available for comment as the Journal went to press.
