VARIOUS Rhuddlan community groups have raised £3,000 to help battle breast cancer.

The former mayor of Rhuddlan cllr Andrew Smith met with Rhuddlan residents living with breast cancer Wendy Jones and to present the cheque which will be donated to charity Breast Cancer Care Cymru.

Fund were raised across a series of events, including an evening of choral music featuring Cor Colwyn ,Cor Alaw, Cor Clwyd, at St Mary's church on Tan-Yr-Eglwys Rd in April and a night of swing music with the Llandudno Swing Band at Rhuddlan Golf Club last month.

Support for events came from cllr Smith's family - wife Susan and children Emily, Ashley - the Rhuddlan Environment Group's chairperson Brenda Taylor, the Prestatyn Air Cadets and St Mary's church as well as many of the town's businesses who donated prizes for a raffle

Cllr Smith said: “It was a very proud moment presenting the cheque to Deborah, who has suffered and still recovering from this awful disease.” The £3,000 was raised in her name during his term of office as mayor.

“I wish to thank everyone who supported my fund raising events.”
